Family Owned & Operated
My name is Paul Kari. My wife, Maya, and I own Teachers Duct & Vent Cleaning. We live in Phoenix with our five children.
I manage the day-to-day operations of our business. And Maya, a high school math teacher by day, handles the administrative side of things on evenings and weekends.
Before we moved to Phoenix in 2010, we lived in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN, where I grew up. Before that, we lived in Vantaa, Finland, where Maya grew up.
We both love Arizona. When not working, we enjoy hiking in the Valley, camping with our kids in the mountains, skiing at Snowbowl in the winter, and taking an occasional weekend trip to Mexico.
How Teachers Duct & Vent Cleaning Came To Be
Teachers Duct & Vent Cleaning is the result of my lifelong quest to mitigate the severe asthma and allergy symptoms that I’ve suffered since early childhood.
Fortunately, my career has taught me how to create a therapeutic home environment for an asthma and allergy sufferer. And it’s given me the foundation needed to run a dryer vent and air duct cleaning company.
Minnesota Work Experience
I worked as an industrial construction project manager in Minnesota, building warehouses and manufacturing facilities. Also, I managed the construction of industrial product assembly lines for companies like 3M, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and others.
I became interested in airflow as an industrial contractor because many projects involved odor and dust control in high-tech manufacturing facilities.
For example, medical device manufacturing facilities have a zero-tolerance policy for contaminants. When one microscopic spec of outside dust contaminates a product assembly line, the company shuts down the line for cleaning. Consequently, a piece of dust can cost tens of thousands of dollars in cleaning and manufacturing downtime.
When this happened, it was my job to figure out why and prevent it from happening again. Consequently, I learned that precise airflow management is the key to odor and dust control in an industrial setting.
But more importantly, I learned that breathing clean air substantially positively impacts my asthma and allergy symptoms. Whenever I was in a facility with ultra-clean air, even though I was working, my lungs felt like they were on vacation!
Phoenix Work Experience
After moving to Phoenix, I worked as a residential energy auditor in the APS and SRP Home Performance Program.
In contrast to my work in Minnesota, where I hired contractors to troubleshoot airflow problems, I was now the person diagnosing airflow problems. I was captivated by the work!
While doing before & after airflow tests as part of my energy audits, it never ceased to amaze me how fixing what appeared to be minor construction errors in vents and ducts would lead to huge energy efficiency improvements.
It wasn’t uncommon to see minor corrections in ductwork and dryer vents increase airflow by 50-300%.
Furthermore, based on my past industrial experience, I knew that when the air flows more freely, the ducts and vents stay cleaner. Which, in turn, helps people with allergies and asthma – breathe freely!
I also realized that most tract homes in Arizona have airflow problems due to poor-quality construction. Some are worse than others, but most homes have some degree of airflow problems.
Since dust build-up results from insufficient airflow, most Phoenix homes also have dust, lint, and allergen problems.
So I decided to start a company – Teachers Duct & Vent Cleaning – to clean ducts and vents and test them for airflow problems. And to teach homeowners what they can do to improve the airflow and air quality in their homes.
Your Unbiased, 3rd Party Voice
Teachers Duct & Vent Cleaning does no HVAC work except for minor dryer vent improvements.
As a result, we are an independent 3rd party voice while cleaning your air ducts and dryer vents. When cleaning, we assess your duct and vent systems to see what changes you can make to reduce the need for future cleanings.
In some cases, airflow improvements are easy DIY projects for homeowners. As a result, you can order the components online and fix them with a few hours of work. We will teach you how to do it!
On the other hand, if you don’t want to repair your airflow issues yourself, we can help you by providing the knowledge you need to ensure your HVAC contractor does the work properly.
Additionally, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that a knowledgeable professional cleaned your air ducts and dryer vents.
If you have dryer vents or air ducts that need cleaning, we’d love to hear from you!
Sincerely, Paul Kari
